Company History:
Artimus Construction is one of New York's most successful
and driven companies. With dozens of projects completed and many
more in progress, Artimus has succeeded in providing strong
profits for investors and better housing and communities for residents.
Founded in 1979, Artimus began with small renovations
and repair projects. By developing relationships with other contractors
Artimus established its signature style in creating, evolving and
expanding partnerships.
Joining as Vice President in 1984, Ken
Haron had a vision that moved the company towards General Contracting
and larger projects which stimulated the firm's growth. In 1989
Ken Haron became the President and sole owner of Artimus; in his
new role, Ken began a two pronged strategy for success: Engage the
Neighborhood and City Agencies; and allow subcontractors to participate
in Artimus's accomplishments. This was a crucial time in the city's
housing development. Ken recognized that for Artimus to be successful,
all the components interacting with Artimus had to become successful
and develop as well. With the help of the neighborhood police, community
groups, Churches, tenant associations, and its own labour force,
Artimus moved from being tangentially related to the process to
being part of the process itself.
In 1990 Artimus ventured north from Harlem to Washington Heights
where it constructed its first affordable housing building. Artimus
has since built over 50 buildings in Manhattan including both market
rate apartments and affordable housing units.
In 1994, Eytan Benjamin
joined Artimus as a partner. Eytan set his sights on updating
operations while sustaining the principles Artimus had developed
through the years . The construction management system was
modeled, while it kept its "family oriented" atmosphere,
but at the same time was able to undertake much larger projects.
In 1995, Artimus began construction in the Manhattan
Valley Neighborhood nestled between Morningside Heights, Harlem,
and the Upper West Side. Renovations of vacant buildings that were
eyesores while working with local police to push out drug dealers, and
getting help from tenant associations was part of the strategy of
constructing the community one building at a time. By 1997, Artimus
had built its first 10 story New Construction apartment
building located in Manhattan Valley as well as numerous gut-rehabilitations
within an area of three blocks.
In 2000, Barry Gurvitch
joined Artimus, as a project manager. In 2003 Barry was promoted
to Chief Architectural officer and currently oversees all of the
construction projects from plan schematics, to final punch lists.
Barry has developed the field staff, so that every project manager
has full accountability and responsibility for his/her project,
yet at the same time can tap into the endless support of the company.
In 2001, Yoav Haron further
developed the company’s infrastructure , using new technologies
and his management background so that Artimus was prepared for
larger projects . Artimus now has 10 highly skilled project
managers, working on up to nine projects at any time, and has hundreds
of relationships built on trust that will continue to propel the
firm forward.
All managers, subcontractors and workers, participate
in the successes of Artimus Construction, through partnership, yearly
bonuses and production incentives.
